HANNAH, wife of JAMES SHEARD
At present, almost nothing is known of Hannah, wife of James Sheard, of Leeds, UK. Her last name, parents, and birth date and place are all unknown. Husband James was baptised 26 October 1800 at Gildersome, Batley, Yorkshire, and the couple were the parents of at least one child, Mary Elizabeth Sheard, born 24 Jan 1835 at Leeds Parish Church, Yorkshire. Mary later married Edward Thompson and moved to Ontario, Canada.
A Hannah Sheard witnessed the marriage of James' sister Elizabeth in October 1832. This witness may be Hannah, if she and James were already married, or this could be the Hannah Sheard who was James' sister.
Hannah was alive at the birth of daughter Mary in 1835 and living at High Court Lane, Leeds, just around the corner from St Peter's Parish Church where Mary was baptised. She and James were likely both deceased, however, by the 1841 Leeds census as Mary appears with James' sister Elizabeth and James' father Samuel Sheard (Leeds census 1841) at The Calls, also near the church.
A Hannah Sheard died 6 Oct 1838 at age 31 at the House of Recovery, Vicar Lane, Kirkgate, Leeds Township (GRO death certificate ordered Jan 2012, copy on file). She was a "single woman" who died of typhus, so this person is more likely to be James' sister Hannah, who was born about 1808.
