JOHN HART (linked to Genealogies page)
CURRENTLY UNDER CONSTRUCTION
The John Hart discussed here is the one who married Jannetje Forshee and lived in Fredericksburgh Twp, Lennox and Addington County. He sometimes appears to be confused with a Jonathan Hart, who like John, was born in New Jersey, lived in Fredericksburgh, and had connections to Whitby and Murray townships. Jonathan, however, was older and arrived in Canada earlier than John.
John was born in New Jersey (LAC reel C-2051 vol 233A H16/76), probably about 1774. As far as is known, he arrived in Canada without family members. "At the Land Board Adolphustown the 5th day of February 1793...John Hart desirous of becoming a settler in this province agreeable to the proclamation pray for 200 acres of land, the oath being administered to him and the land granted..." (Land Board Records and Minutes, RG1 L4 Vol 8 p 13; image 679 of reel C-14027 at heritage.canadiana.ca).
He married Jannetje Forshee, whose family had arrived by 1790. The marriage must have occurred shortly after arriving as their first child was born in 1794.
